16 days, 14 driving days, starting and finishing in Merano, connecting beautiful places via beautiful, small roads. Travel time: August, it could be hot, so if possible, we'll head up into the mountains every now and then. To keep the total distance manageable, to keep daily stages from being too long, and to have time to enjoy the sea, the beautiful towns, and the little things along the way, we're planning to head south by ferry from Livorno to Palermo.

A few days in Sicily, past Mount Etna (the day after the night's ash rain 😳), Taormina, across the Strait of Messina, through Calabria, Basilicata, Campania, Abruzzo, Lazio, Umbria, Emilia Romagna, Lombardy, back to Trentino and South Tyrol.
